Andrei Andreev is a classical pianist, educator, and composer whose career spans Russia, Europe, China, and the United States. Born in Kok-Jangak, Kyrgyzstan, he moved with his family to Saratov, Russia, at the age of fifteen and received his early professional training in the Russian piano tradition.

Andreev studied at the Saratov State College of Arts and later at the Saratov State Conservatory, where he earned a Specialist Degree in Classical Piano Performance. His principal teacher was Professor Albert Tarakanov, People’s Artist of Russia and a student of the legendary pianist and pedagogue Heinrich Neuhaus. Andreev later continued his education in the United States, earning a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Oregon. His additional advanced training includes studies at the International Piano Academy Lake Como in Italy, doctoral-level studies in Piano Performance at James Madison University, and master classes at the St. Petersburg Conservatory with distinguished musicians including Vladimir Mischouk, Alexander Sandler, and Dmitri Bashkirov.

As a concert pianist, Andreev has appeared extensively throughout Russia, Europe, China, and the United States. His performances have taken him to major cultural and concert venues in Moscow and St. Petersburg, including the Catherine Palace, Presidential Library, Polovtsov Palace, Myasnikov Mansion, St. Petersburg Music House, and Glinka National Museum of Musical Culture, as well as philharmonic and concert halls throughout Russia.

His international appearances have included performances in Europe and a series of recitals, master classes, and lectures in China, including engagements in Beijing and Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. In the United States, he has performed in New York City, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Eugene, and numerous other cities. He has also been featured in performance on KING FM in Seattle.

From 2011 to 2015, Andreev served as Principal Keyboardist of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Alfred Schnittke Saratov Regional Philharmonic. He has also appeared as a piano soloist with several orchestras, performing works including Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 3, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and Liszt’s Totentanz.

In 2020, Andreev received an official invitation for a solo recital at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The performance was scheduled but subsequently canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Andreev is a prizewinner of numerous national and international competitions. His recent distinctions include the Silver Prize at the European Virtuoso Music Award in 2025; Third Prize at the Clara Schumann International Piano Competition in 2025; the Diamond Prize in Piano Performance and Platinum Prize in Original Composition at the Saint-Saëns International Music Competition in 2024; and First Prize at the Charleston International Music Competition in 2024.

Earlier awards include First Prizes at the VIVA-MUSIC International Piano Competition in Moscow and the PIANO-FORTE International Piano Competition in St. Petersburg; the Silver Medal and Teacher’s Favorite Award at the Seattle International Piano Festival and Competition; Second Prize at the International Piano Competition commemorating the Centennial of the Saratov State Conservatory; First Prize at the International Piano Competition “The Way to Mastery” in Moscow; and Second Prize at the International Piano Competition “Europe–Asia.” He has also received government grants and distinctions for his artistic work and was selected to participate in the St. Petersburg Music House project “River of Talents.”

In addition to his performing career, Andreev has nearly two decades of teaching experience at the conservatory, university, music-school, private, and international online levels. He has taught piano and chamber music at the Saratov State Conservatory, piano performance at the University of Oregon and James Madison University, and classical piano at the Rimsky-Korsakov State School of Music in St. Petersburg. His private and online students have been based in the United States, France, Italy, Mexico, Australia, and other countries. He also spent several years teaching for a Chinese online music education company.

Since 2020, Andreev has served as Artist-in-Residence and Faculty Member at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, where he teaches piano, music theory, and music appreciation. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Umpqua Symphony.

Andreev was invited to serve as a jury member of the International Gülşin Onay Piano Competition in Turkey in 2024. He is also an artist member of the Concert Association of “Osobnyak Myasnikova” in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Alongside his work as a pianist and educator, Andreev is active as a composer. His Sinfonietta in D Minor received the Platinum Prize in the Original Composition category of the Saint-Saëns International Music Competition in 2024.

His recorded projects include Home Work No. 1 (2017), Haydn, Mozart & Beethoven (2018), and Feeling Scarlatti (2019).
